Upc scanning help

Hello! When you start the shop, you will simply use the format that’s already programmed into the app. You will not be expected to download or figure out your own way of doing it. I did a shop just like the one you are mentioning and a huge issue with that was being able to find things. The store they sent me to simply did not have them! And I am very good at finding things. I wound up not getting paid and wasted a lot of time. I hope you have better luck than me!

Dumb Newbie Question but here it goes :-)

Your actual pay would be the $21. If you were going to be reimbursed for the $59, it would definitely say so. When looking at shops like this, I take into account if that $59 is going to something that I would actually like to have.

Scanning 1000s of upcoming

I just did one for Walmart and when you hit the start button, everything you need to know and do will come up in the app. I had a huge issue with a Walmart one because the store simply did not carry many of the items that I supposedly needed to scan. This was verified by me doing an Internet search as well as looking in the store. The end result was that I didn’t get paid and also I’m pretty sure my score got dinged as well. I did the audit, I answered all of the item questions but at the point where the store, for a fact, does not carry the items, there’s really nothing more I can do. This really left a bad taste in my mouth and I would recommend being careful with taking on this kind of a shop if you are just starting out. also, I feel like those shop scan jobs grossly overestimate how quickly the average person is going to be able to do the scans. The person who responded above saying it would be a breeze, I believe them but they’ve been doing this for 13 years. Until you work up to that level of expertise, you’re basically gonna be working for four dollars an hour.

Also, it is not a requirement that you go unnoticed. This is simply a case where you are not going to be interacting with any of the store employees. I would hope you’d be noticed if you were there for that long!

Random newbie questions

Hello! I am new to secret shopping and have a few random questions here. I appreciate anyone who can chip in some commentary.

I am in an older demographic and I was wondering if there’s any other seniors out there? I definitely have what it takes to do this job but I was wondering if anyone has ever felt they got turned down for something because of their age? Maybe I’m being a little sensitive because I got turned down for a local restaurant shop that was reimbursing at a pretty good rate. But I also got denied for a simple phone call to an event planner. I can’t even count the number of events I’ve planned in my life lol, that one was a real head scratcher.

My account says I am able to self assign 2 shops. I’m not quite sure what this means. Does this mean I can have two shops where I do not have to wait for someone to approve me? Do you get to the point where you are able to self assign a greater number of shops?

My account says that my shopper score is zero. I have one successful shop under my belt here; it was a phone call to a fitness center that went fabulously well. Got immediate approval for payment on that one so I’m assuming the client was satisfied. I have done one other shop here that did not go well. It was for a Walmart. I must have a crummy Walmart because my store absolutely did not carry many of the items I was supposed to find and that situation went downhill pretty fast. The company kicked it back to me and said I will need to go and find the items. It was very frustrating because the items do not exist at that store so it was a bit of a stalemate. The shop was still sitting on my list of active assignments and I was going to unassigned myself but they wound up taking me off it just by declining me. So in this case, it just seems like I was declined and maybe that whole situation didn’t affect my shoppers score? I was exchanging emails with the scheduler and I politely said I’ll bow out (because I could see it was going nowhere and I honestly didn’t want to spend anymore time on it). You know, cut your losses. Can anyone explain how the shoppers score works? Maybe you need several shops under your belt before you even will get a score?

Need help scanning faster

I feel your pain! Honestly, I feel like they’ve way over-estimated the average number of items that someone can scan. I’m sure there’s people who have been doing this for so long they can go and they’re like robots and possibly hit those scan rates but if you think about it, you’ve got to be doing more than one per minute and honestly I just don’t see how that’s possible. I don’t think you’d save any time by taking pictures and uploading them later because basically you’re kind of repeating steps, better to just get it all done while you’re standing there and then you can move onto the next item. I took one of the scanning gigs, and I really had issues, because for a fact, most of the items were not carried in the store, and it turned into an issue. I wound up un-assigning myself because I didn’t wanna waste any more time. Never again on those. Lesson learned!

Self-assign limit

Hello,

I am trying to figure out how things work around here and I’m hoping some of y’all can help. I am new here, and my self-assign limit is set at two. I have quickly noticed that whenever I request a shop, and if I am not already at my limit of two, it successfully assigns me right away. However, if I am at my limit of two, I get declined 100% of the time. Are some of these gigs automatically declining you?

My first shop was a phone call for a fitness center and it went great. I got approved for payment almost immediately. That same fitness center has quickly declined all my other requests when I’m at the limit of 2.

Last week I had no assigned shops and I requested a really nice lunch one at a popular spot. I figured it would get scooped up fast. I got assigned immediately. Do you think that was because I did not have anything else assigned? If that’s the case, it’s almost worth it to always have room for one more self-assign just in case something highly desirable pops up. Or maybe drop the $5 phone call one in order to make room for something better? But then I think you might get dinged for un-assigning yourself.

How long does it take for your limit to start getting bumped up? For you experienced folks, what’s your limit?

Self-assign limit

Hello and thanks for chiming in. I also recently saw three phone shops that were for zero pay and I emailed the scheduler and asked if there was some missing information and I never heard back. People should definitely not be working for zero pay, it just kind of drags everybody else down. I agree with the phone shops being super easy, you don’t even have to get dressed or get in your car. I do them from work! I see a lot of five dollar ones that are basically quick hits and I’ve got one that I’m doing on Saturday. A lot of the phone shops appear to be more involved, like the college admissions ones where you need to make an inquiry then wait for them to call you back. I think a key to utilizing them best is to grab one that you can do right away so it doesn’t sit on your list and basically take up space that could be utilized for something more lucrative. I’ve only been doing this for a few weeks and already I’ve figured out quite a few things!

I am on the app a lot, at all hours, and with the phone shops being declined it often happens at odd hours or middle of the night, typically within a few minutes after I request that shop. That’s what makes me think that there’s an automatic decline feature because I don’t think there’s a human working in the middle of the night looking to decline people LOL

Photos

People post their food on instagram and all social media so I don’t think anyone thinks anything when you’re taking pictures of food! Everyone does it!

Shopper score

How can you even see your score? My second shop was a total bust, I basically got sent on a wild goose chase at Walmart.

Worth it??

I would be very wary of taking anything that requires me to make a large, upfront expenditure. If everything went as planned, that would be fine. But I would just be really afraid of some mishap that wasn’t my fault or missing some detail and having to be rejected and then now I’m left, holding the bill. I’ve just read that some of the shops are very very picky and if everything’s not perfect, you won’t be given a chance to redo it. I think it’s purposely designed like that! Because they certainly have 99% of your review, and they will definitely use it without having to pay for it.
