Welcome to the forum, and to Mystery Shopping (MSing) . I would suggest that each time you get a call for an assignment shop that is too far away for you to consider, is to call them and ask if they would allow a bonus to make it worth your while to travel that long of a distance. Maybe after a while they will remember, and not send you assignments that you won’t accept.
I live in San Francisco and I have the same condition. Yes the “system” states I am only 15 miles away, but these 15 miles involve bridges, or ferries, or a 55 mile trip around the San Francisco Bay waters. Google maps helps, and hinders.
I only wish that People understand Geography better!
To find assignments, you can go to the Available Shops section of the iSecretShop app or web site. There you will see all the assignment shops that are listed by all the member Mystery Shopping Providers (MSPs).
Also, Make sure you have Location Services is turned on for the iSS app so that it hones on your location and serves you local assignment shops.
Hope this helps...
I got an email the other day requesting that I do a shop about 2,500 miles away from me haha
I emailed the scheduler and let them know. It was just a computer glitch! I would definitely contact them and let them know.
Sometimes you will get offers from places far away, but it's usually because they are reaching a deadline and cannot find anyone to do it. They will tell you that this is the case and usually offer or entertain a reasonable bonus to cover travel expenses.
Thank you all for your inputs!
And you're welcome Nicole :) If you are constantly getting email for locations far away from your home address, go to Update Profile on iSecretShop and check to make sure that the right address is listed (that you didn't enter a wrong digit/letter somewhere when listing your address, or that something isn't what it shouldn't be, etc.)
Options for advanced automation and tailoring those emails to each individual shopper are always being worked on - the goal of MSPs, schedulers, and iSecretShop as a platform is always to deliver most relevant offers to shoppers, to avoid "spamming" people and offering shops that are far away and/or cannot be done for whatever reason, to make the entire experience of finding and doing shops as easy and convenient as possible for shoppers.
However, it is not uncommon that those emails are sent to hundreds or thousands of shoppers at once - all those whose listed address is in the area of available shops, so making calculations for specific travel distance, routes, etc. - that would put a massive strain on a system with nearly a million users such as iSecretShop, where two dozen MSPs are constantly reaching out to shoppers in this manner.
Anyways, things are looking up, improvements are made all the time, and if you do have those situations of receiving ofers for shops far away, open up a support ticket and let iSecretShop know. :)
Thanks again guys!
