I am seeing several new Costco shops in addition to the ones that we scan 1900 items. These say they pay .06 an item and you need to scan all items in certain sections/aisles. The description says there can actually be 4500 items to scan. Has anyone done these yet?

If this is through BARE, I've been in contact with Tara Pope and she described the shop and sent some Zoom meeting overview video to me. From what I can gather from the video, be ready to spend somewhere between 6-8 hours in the store with a battery backup (or two) scanning sections of the store. I was semi debating doing it, but there's absolutely zero way I'd have an entire day I'd be willing to spend in some store scanning one of each different item taking a picture of each item, then another picture of each four foot section of that shelf. Basic math on this one says 1,900 x $0.06= $114 so we take $114 and divide that by the hours spent scanning, for this one we'll say six would be $19/hr which isn't bad but I just don't have six hours to devote to scanning every item on a shelf.

If there are 4500 items that you can scan in a store, but you are only required to scan 1900, then you can't be required to scan all items. I've been doing this shop for nearly a year and it took me about 6.5 hours the first time, but it takes about 4 to 5 hours now, and that's because I take my time and make sure I look at each scan for accuracy. I do two stores a week, which is 300 for about 8 hrs total with the bonuses (about $37.50 an hour). COSTCO is pretty simple because the items we are looking for are pretty grouped in depts and convenient spots in the store. Batteries are near wine, produce, grocery aisles and coolers are all together. Once you learn the flow of the store, you can work in a pattern and it's pretty in and out. It's not as complicated as it may seem at all, but it's not for everyone. I always suggest to try it, and if after going a few times it's too much then you know this type of shop is not for you.

My question is how do you do this covertly when you are in there for so long scanning?

They suggested telling people you were price shopping for Instacart or worked at a retirement community and getting prices for the residents.

Any suggestions for a new comer? It’s only been a month for me. I’d like to do Costco but discouraged by the hours it might take me to complete this the number of items and the fear of not doing it right. I am also concerned about losing points or having a negative impact on my profile. Since I am new, trying to be cautious.

I've done a number of these and would suggest starting right when the store opens to give yourself enough time and gauge how long it takes. You will get significantly faster at doing the scans if you do multiple shops. While these kind of shops are time-consuming, I think they are on the more simple end of the spectrum of assignments. I would not worry about not doing it right, just pay attention to the training materials. The MSP is also very responsive and you can reach out with questions if you are unsure of something while doing the shop. They may also reach out to you to make sure everything is going well and you don't have any questions. This was my experience, at least.

I am thinking about doing it. Can anyone elaborate on what is required except scanning? i.e. photos, etc.

Also I am trying to sign up but it shows that I need to complete the agreement but I completed the agreement over 2 months ago and signed it.

Are you going through Survey Scout?? If so you have to watch a video and take an exam. You need to email them for the course code. Good luck, that looks like to much work for me

I really want to do the Costco job. I tried once and failed. I failed to get to 1,000 scans because of time restraints - so it was poor timing. But, I have a full time job. I can’t go until I get off of work which meant arriving around 6pm. I thought I could go Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings to finish it. Nope. It just did not work out for me. But, I don’t want to give up yet. I know I won’t get bonuses & that is okay. Any advice, oh wise scanning Pros? Thanks in advance.
