Is it necessary to complete 1800 scans at Costco in order to be Shopping Scout certified???

I've never in my life been so grateful not to have a Costco membership :')

The Walmart one was bad enough with 50. My Walmart didn’t have most of the items so I spent a lot of time looking, and wound up not getting paid. Like it was my fault they didn’t carry these items. Ugh never again. And FYI the speed at which you’ll be able to scan these items is grossly overestimated especially if you are new.

That is alot. But it will increase your rating and get you better badges. We all start somewhere.

I've read about too many fails for this shop on the other mystery shopper forum. The store can ask you to leave and I can't imagine scanning that many items without being busted. I also hear that the technology is also prone to time outs and slowness.

I told the person who emailed us about this shop that all of that intense labor is not worth the money. She was very understanding.

I agree., these need to be broken down into much smaller shops. There’s no way to be discreet on these shops otherwise.

I have two Costco locations that I've had for some time now (one, a year and a half!). Once I got a routine down, it's only a 5 hour job, they give a bonus and lunch with pay, and I only do 1650 per location, so I'm making about $130/day or about $26/hour. I'm on disability with back and knee issues, so I'm sure to take a lot of meds with me so I don't collapse before finishing like I used to. That said, I don't know where I would find another 200 items because I'm super consistent in each dept. and only miss a few due to customers in the way or whatever. I round out my number with freezer stuff last and when I hit 1650, pack it in. I suppose 200 more could be found in freezer, but haven't checked a full scan of that department for a total available # of products. I usually scan about 50 there at the end of the day. I had this 1650 number negotiated with Bare International before ISS picked up the Costco work, so they kind of "grandfathered" me in. I hate doing the freezer stuff... those coolers are awkward to be in/out of for an extended amount of time.

Just an FYI: You don't have to find certain products for Costco, if anyone wonders. Just go up and down the aisles and scan what's there. I can see the labor intensity having to find certain items, sizes, flavors, etc. THAT wouldn't be worth it... I did a few for Rite Aid and spent more time looking than scanning and once I was comfortable declaring something wasn't available, I would find it in a totally different dept. and have to go back and change the answers. It was SUCH a hassle!

I'm attempting to complete a Costco shop like described above. I already complete a shop every other 2 weeks but minus all the groceries, dog supplies, cleaning items, health and beauty. Do you get an error if you scan something you're not supposed to? I've viewed the videos and passed the "test," but as with any of these shops until you have completed one, you are going in half blind. What suggestions can you share about completing this type shop? I'm taking a companion to work the other side of the store, but the fact that each person has to upload their data concerns me. Has anyone else had issues when doing this?

Hi Monica, what do you mean by getting an error? The app won't tell you if an item shouldn't be scanned if that's what you mean, but nothing is "off limits." You just need to be sure to scan the required departments. Once you have done that, you will likely have 1900 scans to be considered complete. You can then scan any other items you want to in order to increase your pay since we get paid per scan! I hope that helps!
