Distance Pay?

Is there a rule-of-thumb that anyone uses to determine distance pay you ask for? I don't want to ask too little ....but not too much either.

Thanks

What company gives you distance pay?

There are many....not necessarily on this platform. And a lot of times, if it is getting close to deadline, ( and kind of remote) you can always ask the scheduler.

I'm challenged by this as well. Sometimes a scheduler will call me and ask how much it will take to get to travel to a remote city.

My favorites are sometimes in Canada, a US company will pay you in US funds which is 35% bonus for us. :-)

When they ask you to input your milage to the shop - it was 14.2. Do I double it, because I have to get home! Or, do they just pay the distance to the shop?

Thank you for the question about milage, I always wondered.

There is no harm in asking a scheduler. I get requests for distance pay or people will say they will only do a shop for X amount.

:Most places that I have seen and have been approved for just ask for X amount of PAD. Even if its not that far...most times they will ok it just because of the urgency of the shop. More like a bonus. I have done routes where I will be gone from home for 3-4 days at a time...I will not ask for PAD but an increased amount per location, because (depending on type of job) I can do 6-7 (and in a couple instances...more) in a day. It probably means going maybe 20 miles in between shops. Mainly in rural areas, like downstate Illinois or south central Missouri. I recently did, however) complete 15 shops in a major city in two day. Yeah, I had to get a hotel for one night, but easy to find a inexpensive place to stay.

It would be great to get distance pay.Anytime you need to pay for train or bus fare it is good to get comped for it.

Well, that is true, but you must expect that the client would not want to pay this unnecessarily, and would hope either for someone local to the shop, or someone who has other reason to be in that area. Now, if the shop goes unfilled in the normal course, they will usually offer a "bonus," and that bonus is what would cover you for direct transportation costs or mileage for your vehile.

That's true Jeff. Last week of the month is usually when most bonuses are given, as a lot of the shops are posted on a monthly basis, so the schedulers need to get them assigned and done before the end of the month.
