Hello! I had a question as I noticed some shops have you ask to see if a Manager is working and for the life of me I have been avoiding them due to not being able to figure out a way how to bring it up to the employee and then continue with follow up.

For example a phone retail store shop I see you need to ask if the manager is there - I have no idea in what context I would need to see the manager depending on how the conversation goes with the employee. If the conversation goes well, how would you bring it up?

Anyone else ever had to do something like this before? Any advice is appreciated!

There's different ways...retail would be to see if you can ask if they'll carry a specific item (relating to the store you're in) Restaurant, you can just say you want to compliment the service/food etc. It's easier for you to list or note the places you're hesitant to ask and I can possibly offer a way or a couple ways. Been doing this for 30 years so I've got all the excuses why I need to speak to a manager :D

Hi Ashley, in the retail phone store, you could always ask the member of staff if they can get you a better deal by asking their manager. So maybe ask if they can drop the upfront fee of a contract or so?

In the UK, if you say the price is too high, the member of staff normally says "let me check with my manager to see if they can do anything about it".

What about for fine dining? If the manager does not present to your table, then what? Ask any staff member what's the manager's name?

In fine dining establishments, it's reasonably common for a happy guest to ask for the manager so as to give him compliments about the meal and/or staff. If s/he does not automatically introduce him/herself, introduce yourself and ask the manager for his/her name.

It is easy when you are doing restaurant assignments. On your way out ask to speak to the manager. Get their name and tell them what a wonderful experience you had that evening!
